He walked with a permanent limp because he had been kicked by one of them. We used to go and see the horses most days as I lived in Alma Rd; probably around 1948". (Courtesy Richard Gaylard)

1973 Carshalton Depot, Carshalton Road/ Shorts Road. Mike Lodge comments "We got our milk from Express Dairy. Our milkman was Harry he used to deliver down Denmark Road/ Denmark Gdn flats, then part of River Gardens before turning round and going into Strawberry Lane. Then it was into The Causeway/ Mill Close, before returning to the other end of River Gardens, then Shepley Close and back to the depot. I used to help out during the summer holidays, meeting him in Denmark Gardens and finishing in Shepley Close. Friday was a long day as it was money collection day. Sometime in the early 60s, they changed to electric carts, so no more horses." (Courtesy John Parkin/Michael Sparey)

1976 Carshalton milkmen Steve Omley and Richard Wrait help with a Hackbridge house fire. [Steve's surname was 'Omley', corrected by Deborah Grace, who also wrote "I helped Steve Omley on weekends and school holidays for 5 or 6 years in the 1970's and have such great memories of that time. I often babysat for his young son, Ben and remember his wife Lynne. I usually cycled to the Shorts Road depot, but sometimes Steve came and picked me up in his Triumph Herald 6, which you could hear coming from miles away. I remember the fire that Steve and his trainee Richard Wrait helped rescue people from was in Reynolds Close, Hackbridge. The round was a long one which started near the depot and then finished in Hackbridge. I kept in touch with them until they moved to Australia in the early 1980's. I also remember Lee Wilding, and his Dad, Roger. I helped Roger out when others were away, and he had a big round, including the Roundshaw Estate. Bill Dowsing lived above the dairy shop, which was around the corner on Carshalton Road. He was the first milkman I worked for, after his previous helper Diane Parrott left. I must have been 10 or 11. 😂".] (Express News Christmas)
