Commissioned by Express Dairy in the mid 1960’s, the film shows the preparation of starter cultures, followed by a detailed explanation of Cheddar making, packing and cutting. Cheshire Cheese packing at Minsterley is shown, along with Derby, Sage Derby and Wensleydale production. The production of whey butter, and the condensing, drying and packing of whey powder at Appleby is also illustrated. (18 minutes, colour)
The story of the Duchess of Kent's official opening of the £6m factory in Oswestry on 4th November 1987. The site had been in production since August that year, handling the equivalent of 30,000 tonnes a year. Nearly all the 300 staff transferred from Whittington Creamery. Includes some names of those who took part in the ceremony.
Express Foods film from 1989, showing the production of Cheshire cheese at Reece's Creamery in Malpas, Cheshire which Express acquired in 1987. Shortly after the film was made, production was transferred to a new site in Malpas, in early 1990. Also mentioned is the Express cheese cutting plant at Oswestry (which opened in 1988).
