1956 pen & ink drawing from article in Express News about Elmers End retail depot. Chris Austen comments "I started my career with Express in January 1959 and was directed to start at Elmers End. I carried out milk rounds and also worked on milk checking and as a servery hand. The manager was Jack Butt and, a few years later, I was his assistant at South Morden Retail Depot". Paul Batchelor comments "They had a few of those Rider Prams in the depot, all very tightly parked up. They all moved to depots around the area and many had to be replaced as they only had 16 battery cells and couldn’t cover the extra distance required after moving."

1957 Profile of Mr E.O. Griffiths, Retail Manager at Orpington, previously Elmers End. Chris Austen remembers "In 1961, I was Mr Griffiths Assistant Manager at Ives Street (Chelsea). As mentioned, he drove a Daimler but, quite often, we would visit customers with him riding pillion on my Lambretta motor scooter!! Evan Owen Griffiths was a true Welshman and great fun to work with!". Frances Watts comments "He was my Dad! He passed away in 1980 aged 64. He was a true legend. His wartime injuries got the better of him but not before he made Marketing Director at Ruislip and had 6 children-I’m the sixth. He made it back to Wales where he lived for 3 years before his passing. The account here is not entirely correct but a worthy account nevertheless. I was sick in the back of that Daimler many a time 😝". Hilary Mccluskey adds "I remember him well, one of Express’ great characters." (Express News Autumn)
