1970's Crediton - the end of churn collection. Kym Moore commented "Flag at half mast, the last churn delivery was the end of an era." Linda Hallett commented "My first proper job 1972-73 working in the lab - would have to go out when the lorries came in to sample the milk. Gillian Williams commented "I worked at the lab during the summer of 1970. Like you - testing the milk that came in in the churns - donning the big boots and ladle - down to the hopper where you had a grab the sample of milk before the gates opened and the milk disappeared. 1970's Crediton - the end of churn collection. Kym Moore comments "Back row from left: Dougie Green, Les Heale, Trevor Woodgates. Dougie was responsible for the tipping of all the churns, Les and Trevor were 'sniffers' they literally sniffed and visually inspected every churn before it was accepted and tipped. I left in 1981 to have my first baby, I met my husband there (now ex husband) John Tucker, he worked in the butter room, they were making Country Life butter back then." Phillip Budd comments "I worked in many of the departments while at Express, I took over from my brother in the butter room and his name was Maurice also there was a Henry Roberts who was also a butter maker."
