1980's? Harringay. Allen Cullen comments "Here’s an old milkman heading south down Jolly Butchers Hill in the 80s or 90s, probably on his way back to base. You can see Wood Green bus garage up the hill a bit, and the tube station is off-pic to the right. The big Express Dairy depot was opened next to Harringay Stadium in 1985 after the smaller branches at Tottenham, Muswell Hill & Winchmore Hill were closed down." (Courtesy Paul Luke)

Comments from 'Bromley Glossary FB Group- Kevin Smith: I can see the milkman who used to deliver the milk to my parents house as a kid-back row left to right 5th one, Mr Quinnell I think it was. Natasha Coombs: One of the Express Dairy milkman used to deliver to us in Constance Crescent. I called him Uncle Joe, and he and his wife, Aunt Ruby, invited me to their home every Boxing Day. Helen Parker: They used to deliver to my family in Broom Rd Shirley. My brother used to help the milkman with his deliveries for a bit of pocket money, and the wonderful Ralph MacTell was on his round. We were very impressed that he had strawberry yogurts delivered...very exotic!

He suffered from trauma as a young boy which left him with a stutter and he said 'Nob, nob, nob' constantly. Over the years He worked at Lodge Road Hendon, Church Lane Kingsbury, Hall Lane, Five Ways Corner and College Farm, Finchley. I was his milk boy for a time. He drank in The Red Lion on Kingsbury Road Colindale/ West Hendon. I used to go into Lodge Road depot when I was working with Nobby; it wasn't a big depot as far as I could tell, but I was about 13 so found it exciting to see!"
