1970's? Express Red crates - Allan Dawes comments "Back in the good old days we were all issued with a red crate to put damaged or foreign bottles in." (Courtesy Paul Luke)
1998 Peter Rowland explains "I've tried to show how you can see old crates are: this was made for Express in July 1998. The clock faces show the dates."
1990's? North Tawton Cheese Storage crate. Ron Iles comments "Good strong boxes but a b*gger to get the 40 pound block cheese out." Tim Schofield comments "These were modified after a couple of years, holes were drilled into the bases. This allowed air into the bottom to release the vacuum/suction that the cheese caused." Dai Williams said "Remember these well. Never had enough in stock for the April flush !! Also the 4-post metal pallets that they were loaded onto for storage. No mobile racking required in those days. Mark Hudson adds "The circles at the top left and right of the crate show the month and year of manufacture... 1982 in this case." (Courtesy Phillip Budd)

1910's? Express Dairy stoneware ginger beer with a Royal insignia (Queen Victoria). Mark comments "Express Dairy received it’s royal warrant in 1895 from when it proudly displayed the Royal insignia alongside its name. By the turn of the nineteenth century Express Dairy was running tea houses (light refreshment restaurants) across London and was manufacturing the majority of it’s own foods and beverages including ginger beer."
