Horses on display at Carshalton Depot. Lee Durham comments "Second from the left Iβm pretty sure that is my uncle Vic Chapman. He loved horses and taught me to ride to a high standard. Rumour has it he took the job so he could work with horses." Dennis Cook adds "I`m sure the man on the left was the person who looked after the horses. He walked with a permanent limp because he had been kicked by one of them. We used to go and see the horses most days as I lived in Alma Rd; probably around 1948". (Courtesy Richard Gaylard)

1976 Carshalton milkmen Steve Omley and Richard Wrait help with a Hackbridge house fire. [Steve's surname was 'Omley', corrected by Deborah Grace, who also wrote "I helped Steve Omley on weekends and school holidays for 5 or 6 years in the 1970's and have such great memories of that time. I often babysat for his young son, Ben and remember his wife Lynne. I usually cycled to the Shorts Road depot, but sometimes Steve came and picked me up in his Triumph Herald 6, which you could hear coming from miles away. I remember the fire that Steve and his trainee Richard Wrait helped rescue people from was in Reynolds Close, Hackbridge. The round was a long one which started near the depot and then finished in Hackbridge. I kept in touch with them until they moved to Australia in the early 1980's. I also remember Lee Wilding, and his Dad, Roger. I helped Roger out when others were away, and he had a big round, including the Roundshaw Estate. Bill Dowsing lived above the dairy shop, which was around the corner on Carshalton Road. He was the first milkman I worked for, after his previous helper Diane Parrott left. I must have been 10 or 11. π".] (Express News Christmas)
